Seymour Lipkin

Seymour Lipkin has appeared as soloist with most major American orchestras, including those of Philadelphia Cleveland, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh and St. Louis, with conductors such as Munch, Reiner, Steinberg, Ormandy, Bernstein and Dohnanyi.  He recorded the Stravinsky Piano Concerto with Leonard Bernstein.  A conducting student of Koussevitzky at Tanglewood, he has served as Associate Conductor of the New York Philharmonic and Music Director of the Joffrey Ballet.  As a chamber musician he has participated in the Marlboro festival, and collaborated with such distinguished artists as Heifetz, Ricci, Tortelier, Zimbalist, Primrose and the Guarneri Quartet.   He is currently on the piano and chamber music faculties of the Curtis Institute and the Juilliard School.

Mr. Lipkin is Artistic Director of the Kniesel Hall Chamber Music Festival in Blue Hill, Maine.  He also served as Artistic Director of the University of Maryland International Piano Festival and William Kapell Piano Competition.

He has performed virtually all of Beethoven's major works for piano, including complete cycles of the 32 Sonatas, the 5 Concertos, the 10 Violin Sonatas and the Cello Sonatas.
