David Bar-Illan
David Bar-Illan's first major appearance on the international stage took place in his native Israel with the Israel Philharmonic under the baton of Dimitri Mitropoulos, who immediately urged Leonard Bernstein to engage him for appearances with the New York Philharmonic. Since then he has appeared with major orchestras of the U.S. including Boston, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Detroit, Minnesota, Cincinnati, Washington, D.C., Indianapolis, Baltimore, New Orleans and others, as well as the great European orchestras: the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Vienna Symphony, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the orchestras of Munich, Stuttgart, Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen. He gave the world premiere performances of Robert Starer's Piano Concerto No. 3, which was commissioned for him, in Baltimore, Cincinnati, Jerusalem, New York and Munich. Taking time off from concertizing, he served as editor-in-chief of the Jerusalem Post (1992-1996) and as Director of Communications in the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem (1996-1999). |
